Task type fields
Each task type on a board can have its own set of additional fields. A task type is a task template with the Kanban board task purpose connected to the board. The task type form is configured in the form editor and is shown in the task below the basic fields.
Who can configure task types and their fields:
| Action | Restricted board | Open board |
|---|---|---|
| Connect and disconnect task types, configure their fields | Owner, board administrator, system administrator | Owner, system administrator |
Other users see the board settings in read-only mode.
Board task types
Task types are selected in the Task types field of the Create board and Edit board panels (see Creating and configuring a board).
- Start typing a template name — the list shows templates with the Kanban board task purpose that are not yet connected to the board.
- Select a template — it is added to the field as a chip.
- Save the board.
To disconnect a task type, remove its chip and save the board.

A task type that has tasks on the board cannot be disconnected. When the board is saved, the message "Cannot disconnect task type «…»: the board has tasks of this type" appears and the chip returns to the field. Tasks in the trash are not counted. The last task type of a board cannot be removed.
Creating a new task type
If the template you need is not in the list:
- Type the name of the new task type.
- The item + Create template «…» appears at the bottom of the list — click it. The template creation form opens in a new tab: the name is filled in, the Kanban board task purpose is selected and cannot be changed.
- Fill in the template and save it. The template tab closes, the template is added to the Task types field as the last chip, and the message "Task type «…» added to the board" appears.
- Save the board.
Board task fields page
To configure fields, click Configure task type fields below the Task types field in the Edit board panel. The Board task fields «…» page opens in a new tab. For a new board, the button appears after the board is saved.

On the left is the Task templates panel: the board task types and the number of fields in each form. On the right is the form editor of the selected task type. The panel is collapsed with the button in its header.
The collapsed Basic task fields block is shown at the top of the form. These fields exist in every task: they cannot be changed, deleted or moved. The fields you add appear in the task below the basic ones.
A task type form is shared by all boards the template is connected to. If the template is connected to several boards, a warning is shown above the editor: "The template is connected to boards: N. Form changes will apply to all these boards".
Configuring the form
- Select a task type in the Task templates panel.
- Add fields from the editor palette and configure their properties, order, width and groups. A ready-made block of fields can be inserted from the Field sets tab (see Template form editor).
- Click Save. The form is published and appears in tasks of this type, and the message "Scheme saved" appears.
The settings of a published form are locked. To change the form, click Return to draft, make your changes and click Save again.
While the form is a draft, the task type has 0 fields and the form is not shown in tasks of this type. Save the form to show it in tasks again.
If the form has unsaved changes, selecting another task type or leaving the page opens the Leave without saving? dialog: Stay returns to the editor, Leave discards the changes.

Overall preview
The Overall preview button in the page header shows the basic fields and the task type form as they will look in a task. To return to configuration, click To editing.

Adding a task type from the page
- Click + in the Task templates panel header — a search field appears.
- Select a template from the list, or type a name and select + Create template «…».
The template is connected to the board immediately and opens in the editor. You do not need to save the board.
If a template with the same system name already exists, the new template is not created and the message "A template with this system name already exists. Change the template name" appears.
Filling in fields in a task
- When creating a task, select the Task type — the form of this type appears below the basic fields in the layout from the editor.
- Fill in the fields and click Create.
Field values can be viewed and changed in the side panel and on the task tab.
- Empty required form fields are highlighted; the task is not saved until they are filled in.
- When the task type is changed, the form is replaced with the form of the new type and the values of the previous form are reset.
- The task type form is not shown when tasks are created in bulk.
- In tasks of an archived board and in deleted tasks, form fields are read-only.
